A measured base
for a new building.
Our client needed a full topographical survey of an existing industrial site in Padiham to support a new building proposal.
Brookes Geospatial recorded the existing buildings, ground levels, roads, boundaries, vegetation and visible site features, bringing the measured information together in a coordinated survey drawing.
With substantial changes in elevation along the northern side and industrial operations continuing throughout the survey, both detailed coverage and careful site liaison were essential.
The site challenge
Steep level changes.
Bridges and access.
The northern side of the site featured significant elevation differences, alongside a public footpath and two road bridges.
The survey documented how the ground, roads, walls and bridge structures relate to one another. Spot levels, contours and bridge detail helped make these changes in elevation clear within the completed drawing.
Survey approach
Coordinate the work.
Capture the site.
Site liaison
Survey activities were coordinated with site personnel to minimise disruption to ongoing industrial operations.
Level coverage
Ground levels and changes in elevation were recorded, with attention to the steep northern side of the site.
Feature survey
Existing buildings, roads, bridge details, boundaries, vegetation and visible site features were measured in context.
CAD production
The measured information was brought together in a detailed topographical drawing for the building proposal.
Full site survey
The wider site.
One coordinated drawing.
The completed survey brings together the industrial site and its surrounding features, showing existing buildings, access routes, terrain, boundaries and vegetation across the survey extent.
Working around operations
A live site.
Carefully coordinated.
The site remained operational while the survey was carried out, making communication with site personnel an important part of the work.
We liaised to coordinate access and survey activities around ongoing operations, helping minimise disruption while obtaining the required survey coverage.
Survey detail
From bridge levels
to site access.
Drawing extracts show how local features and spot levels support the wider site survey, including the bridge at Green Lane and the road layout around Station Road.
Survey information
Existing conditions.
Clearly recorded.
The completed drawing combines the site's level information and visible features into a practical base for the proposed building.
Spot levels defining the existing ground, road and surface elevations.
Terrain information showing changes in elevation across the site.
Existing building footprints and visible threshold levels recorded in context.
Measured bridge features and level information alongside the surrounding terrain.
Road edges, kerbs, paths and visible access features across the survey area.
Visible walls, fences and boundary features shown within the site context.
Trees and other visible vegetation recorded alongside the terrain and structures.
A coordinated survey drawing providing a measured base for the new building proposal.
The result
A complex site.
A clear starting point.
The client received a detailed measured record of the existing site to support the development of their new building proposal.
With levels, buildings, roads, bridges and surrounding features brought together in one drawing, the design team could assess the proposal in relation to the existing site and its substantial changes in elevation.
